Android Kit Kat for LG G2

So yes I decided to be like many other folks and check the OTA update for my phone and same result….NOTHING!! Yeah yeah getting old you say but I figured it would be a carrier release that would take time. Boy was I wrong! So i had been curious about LG Software for my phone. You know software for my PC. Since I had hooked up my phone to my PC to charge I thought I would check online. Ended up downloading LG PC Suite. Sort of their version of iTunes. Allows you to transfer files and stuff, do backups and of course check for updates. Also gives you quick info on your devices memory as well as device name and serial number. All that tech stuff. Photos below

BEFORE YOU ATTEMPT TO UPGRADE YOUR LG G2 FIRMWARE PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST FIRST AND MAKE SURE YOUR DEVICE IS READY FOR THE UPDATE. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE INSTALLED THE USB DRIVER AND THE LG PC SUITE SOFTWARE AND UPDATED IT.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGE DONE TO YOUR PHONE DURING THIS PROCESS. YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A STOCK LG UPDATE PROBLEMS CAN ARISE FROM NOT FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS AND I AM NOT AT FAULT FOR YOUR ERRORS!

TIPS FOR G2 FIRMWARE UPDATE
*Charge your device fully
*Install USB Driver for Windows or MAC
*Install LG PC SUITE Software (Free) Link below
*When running check for update BACKUP device then update
*DO NOT disconnect your device during this process
*Run the firmware update during a time when your phone is not needed to avoid calls and messages
*Follow these steps and dont brick your phone.

Here is a link to LG’s website about the firmware update.
http://www.lg.com/us/support/product-help/CT10000003-CT10000027-1387489633167

To download the actual upgrade package you will need to go to the following page and select the LG G2 from the menus.

http://www.lg.com/us/support/software-manuals

Choose following:

Step 1 choose Mobile.
Step 2 choose Cell Phones
Step 3 choose T-Mobile Phones (or whatever carrier you have)
Step 4 choose D801 G2 T-Mobile for T-Mobile (or whatever your carrier version is that is listed)

Look below and you will see the Downloads section. It should say Manuals & Documents, Software Update, OSP and PC Sync. Go to PC SYNC and choose Windows or MAC. Then click the download button. Install the program. After installation and first run it will prompt you to install a new update. Install it then connect your LG G2 and let it sync for the first time. Once this is done you will see at the bottom of the page where it will say Check Updates. The upper portion, assuming your phone is connected will show device info like Name, memory and serial number.

OSP stands for On-Screen Phone. its a new feature that I really dont care to use but you might want to try it. You can download it as well here.

Before continuing with the update I would suggest clicking the Software Update tab and downloading the USB Driver for your OS platform and installing it first.

Thats really all their is to it. Once you have LG PC Suite installed and updated you can proceed with the check for update BUT remember to leave your device alone and DO NOT DISCONNECT IT!!!! Seriously folks dont be an idiot. Do this when you dont need to use your phone like at night as I have done. The entire process only takes about 20-30 minutes or less depending on your computer. I suggest running a backup. Before proceeding with the update you will be asked if you want to perform a backup or not. I suggest doing a backup just in case!!! Once this is done your phone will update! Also make sure your phone is fully charged. At least 70 or 80%. Trying to updated firmware when the battery is about to die isnt wise. Besides you will be prompted to charge your battery before the update will continue. If you run into this problem simply charge your phone with your charger because you already know it will charge fast and then run the check for updates again. Once the update is in process your screen will show some screens you have never seen. Dont worry your phone isnt broken. Just DONT TOUCH IT OR DISCONNECT IT!! After the update is complete the screen will prompt you that it is done. You can disconnect your device at this point. In settings on phone you can go under General-About Phone-Software Information and it should display Android Version 4.4.2. Also you will notice that your icons in status bar up top are no longer blue. They have been replaced by white icons. Same style just white.

Android…

Ive blogged in the past on my craptastic adventures with unlocking and jailbreaking friends apple iphones and ipods but i never really have taken much consideration on blogging about the Android OS. Android is my OS of choice and I have quite a few interesting things to post about it. Of course I wont do all of that right now but I might start blogging a bit about this as well. Many know that I use the HTC HD2 which to me is about the best phone ive ever owned. This thing can run just about any OS including Linux and Windows 7!!! All I am running though is WinMo 6.5 and Android Gingerbread.

I rooted my phone and decided to go with the CyanogenMod7 builds. Popularly known now as the AmeriCanAndroid build.

One of my favorite spots to visit is http://www.xda-developers.com A great site devoted to hacking all different models of cell phones. Anyone interested in a rooted build of Android for their HD2 or your Android device please check out the following links:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=11417869

http://www.cyanogenmod.com/

The builds I use are ran from the Micro SD Card as WinMo is the main OS so backing up and installing new builds of Android is fairly easy. Of course if anyone decides to go to these links and try it for yourself I suggest backing up your phone data before doing so and formatting your Micro SD Card.

NAND versions of Android are also available where you don’t need to use the card. I have not decided to take the step in flashing Android to my phone just yet. I keep WinMo just in case!

For my WinMo build I use the custom build

Anyways, if anyone has questions about running Android on your HTC HD2 I suggest checking the above links as your questions and easily be answered there.

O K i am going to bed now. My bunk is calling my name and I need a lil sleep!!

Dogspeed….

The Android Gets the Apple

….in more ways than one!! I found this on my phone going through the Zedge Android app and thought it was funny enough to share with those that are not quite Apple lovers.

Enjoy and ill have more to write about soon! Stay tuned….

iOS 4.2 & Baseband 5.14.02 Unlocking….Glad I Dont Own iCrap

so a friend of mine came to me asking me to unlock and jailbreak his iphone 3G. Well the jailbreak of course was quite simple. Worse case scenario? He updated his iphone to the new iOS 4.1 which also updates the baseband to 5.14.02. I dont know if it updates the bootloader too but his is at 5.9 and if it was at 5.8 I hear that somethign could be done to unlock this fucker. So for the last 2 days or going into two days I have been trying to figure this shit out. The only thing about the “bright” side is that I have all these fucking icrap programs to unlock other phones in the future lol.

So i read that Apple has not released iOS 4.2 and it wont be for another 10 days or so from now. Its safe to say that POSSIBLY it might come out by Turkey Day. Thats Thanksgiving for those that are not keen on our American holiday Thanksgiving. So after all the bullshit, slamming my fist on my desk countless times and …..well you know getting pissy. I just decided the best thing to do at this point is to just put the thing aside, give it back to him and keep an eye out for the new iOS 4.2 because the hacks will be released around the same time. THEN i can unlock his unruly phone. lol. I charged him $25 bucks to do it. Honestly it doesnt bug me to spend all the time trying because through all the trial and error and shit, it might pay off later to unlock more of STeve Jobs contraptions for fanatics. lol.

So in the end, its a waiting game. So if your an Apple icrap lover which I am NOT, then I will have to wait to get his phone cracked just like the rest of you. Ive gone through all the BS. Downgraded the phone to a custom 3.1.2 IPSW firmware, tried the redsn0w shit, welll you get the picture. So instead of getting a coronary over this phone ill stick with playing with my phone while my friend Thomas gets pissy because he will have to wait to use his used iphone 3G on T-Mobile and I get to enjoy my awesome HD2. lol

So if your an iphone user that really really really really really really really needs these hacks, i suggest you wait it out and stop whinning over it. The more you whine the longer you will wait. Apparently, Apple has held up the release of it because of a wi-fi bug for the ipad and I guess because of that they are holding back all the updates until its fixed. I personally think Steve Jobs likes making his worshippers wait. Go ahead Steve, im not one of your worshippers! lol
