So yes I decided to be like many other folks and check the OTA update for my phone and same result….NOTHING!! Yeah yeah getting old you say but I figured it would be a carrier release that would take time. Boy was I wrong! So i had been curious about LG Software for my phone. You know software for my PC. Since I had hooked up my phone to my PC to charge I thought I would check online. Ended up downloading LG PC Suite. Sort of their version of iTunes. Allows you to transfer files and stuff, do backups and of course check for updates. Also gives you quick info on your devices memory as well as device name and serial number. All that tech stuff. Here is a link to LG’s website about the firmware update.
To download the actual upgrade package you will need to go to the following page and select the LG G2 from the menus.
Step 1 choose Mobile.
Step 2 choose Cell Phones
Step 3 choose T-Mobile Phones (or whatever carrier you have)
Step 4 choose D801 G2 T-Mobile for T-Mobile (or whatever your carrier version is that is listed)
Look below and you will see the Downloads section. It should say Manuals & Documents, Software Update, OSP and PC Sync. Go to PC SYNC and choose Windows or MAC. Then click the download button. Install the program. After installation and first run it will prompt you to install a new update. Install it then connect your LG G2 and let it sync for the first time. Once this is done you will see at the bottom of the page where it will say Check Updates. The upper portion, assuming your phone is connected will show device info like Name, memory and serial number.
OSP stands for On-Screen Phone. its a new feature that I really dont care to use but you might want to try it. You can download it as well here.
Before continuing with the update I would suggest clicking the Software Update tab and downloading the USB Driver for your OS platform and installing it first.
Thats really all their is to it. Once you have LG PC Suite installed and updated you can proceed with the check for update BUT remember to leave your device alone and DO NOT DISCONNECT IT!!!! Seriously folks dont be an idiot. Do this when you dont need to use your phone like at night as I have done. The entire process only takes about 20-30 minutes or less depending on your computer. I suggest running a backup. Before proceeding with the update you will be asked if you want to perform a backup or not. I suggest doing a backup just in case!!! Once this is done your phone will update! Also make sure your phone is fully charged. At least 70 or 80%. Trying to updated firmware when the battery is about to die isnt wise. Besides you will be prompted to charge your battery before the update will continue. If you run into this problem simply charge your phone with your charger because you already know it will charge fast and then run the check for updates again. Once the update is in process your screen will show some screens you have never seen. Dont worry your phone isnt broken. Just DONT TOUCH IT OR DISCONNECT IT!! After the update is complete the screen will prompt you that it is done. You can disconnect your device at this point. In settings on phone you can go under General-About Phone-Software Information and it should display Android Version 4.4.2. Also you will notice that your icons in status bar up top are no longer blue. They have been replaced by white icons. Same style just white.
